Sweden health and safety

Sweden is very safe and virtually crime-free. The people are welcoming and friendly and enjoy a high standard of living and a clean, healthy environment. Medical facilities are excellent.

The Swedish medical system is a state run system, so instead of visiting a local private general practitioner, travellers can visit a local medical centre or clinic, called an ‘Akutmottagning’ or ‘Vardcentral’. Patients should be prepared to present their passport. The Swedes are famous for their unwavering commitment to road safety. Most hotels and other accommodation in Sweden maintain contact with a nearby doctor who can be summoned quickly in case of illness.

Sweden enjoys a very low crime rate and incidences of violent crime are extremely rare. Visitors should take the mandatory precautions against pickpocketing, which can become quite common during the summer in big cities.
