Spain is located in the southwestern region of Europe, on the Iberian peninsula, and shares borders with Portugal, France and Andorra. The country meets the Bay of Biscay in the north, the Mediterranean Sea in the east and south, and the Atlantic Ocean in the south and west. The Strait of Gibraltar separates Spain from Africa by only 13kms. Five major mountain ranges cross the country, and the remaining landscape is diverse, ranging from lush plains to desert-like areas.
Madrid, the Spanish capital, is located in the centre of the country, and is well connected to domestic destinations and other European cities by air, bus and rail transportation. Barajas International Airport is located approximately 13kms from the city centre, and there are eight bus stations scattered around the city. Trains leave regularly from both Atocha and Camartin stations.
