Spain travel information

Spain is one of Europe’s most precious gems, encompassing a rich historical and cultural heritage, exquisite beaches, and relaxed, friendly people. Health risks are minimal, medical facilities are good, and transport connections efficient, but muggings and pickpocketing are a concern in the cities.

In March 2004, a series of bombs exploded on three separate train stations during rush hour, leaving nearly 200 people dead and over 1,000 injured. Responsibility for the atrocities was claimed by a group allegedly linked to Al-Qaeda, but the Basque group ETA is also involved in terrorist activities and has threatened to direct attacks at tourist centres. We recommend you check up-to-date travel advice on the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website before travelling to Spain.
