Russia is located in northern Asia, but the part of the country which lies west of the Urals Mountains is associated with Europe. The country has the distinction of being the world’s largest, and has an extremely diverse climate and a large variety of terrain that includes mountains and forests, tundras and lakes, and fertile plains. Much of the country is extremely cold and not conducive to successful agriculture.
Moscow is located in roughly the centre of what is known as European Russia, and is a major transport hub, with as many as five airports, nine train stations and numerous bus connections to destinations within about a 700-kilometre radius of the city.
