Amsterdam maps

Amsterdam has a population of 730,000 spread over an area of 220km2. The old city is contained within the ring of concentric canals dating from the 17th century that forms the crescent-shaped canal belt bordered by the Singelgracht. It is located in the southwest quadrant of the country and, given the Netherlands’ relatively small size, travelling times are never very long; it is 57kms to the Hague and 73kms to Rotterdam.

Amsterdam is much smaller (but no less interesting) than many European capitals and much of the city centre can be comfortably explored on foot or, if you want to look like a true local, by bicycle.
