Rome maps

Rome is halfway down Italy's western coast, about 20kms inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea. As well as being the nation’s capital, it is also the regional capital of Latium, characterised by undulating hills stretching from the western buttresses of the Apennines to the sea. Latium has four very ancient volcanic districts, where the craters of extinct volcanoes form the lakes of Bolsena, Vico, Bracciano, Albano and Nemi. It is approximately two hours by road or rail from here to Florence or Naples and six hours to Milan. Palermo is a 10-hour drive or a 14-hour train journey.
