Naples is the third largest city in Italy and is characterised by a chaotic charm of constant traffic, ancient Roman and Greek style architecture, café’s, churches, and restaurants, all overlooking the beautiful Bay of Naples. Naples is where Italy lets it all hang out, and if you have the nerves for it, there is much for you to discover.

The best time to visit is from April to June, when prices are lower and there's elbow room in Naples' lively streets and piazzas.
Be wary of cheaper hotels, especially around the Piazza Garibaldi area, as many double as brothels and you may get more than you bargained for.
For spectacular panoramic views of the city and the bay, as well as to get your bearings, head up to Largo San Martino via foot or funicular train.
Bag-snatchers and pickpockets can be a problem in tourist cities in Italy and Naples has a particular reputation for dodgy characters. They operate on foot in groups or as passengers on passing mopeds and can be very skilled at distracting you while an accomplise unzips your back or cuts it loose.
Most places in Italy will add a service charge to your bill, so check before tipping. Almost all service staff will expect a tip in Naples if it hasn't already been added to the bill. The amount is at your discretion but 10 per cent is the accept norm.
English is widely spoken within the tourist areas of Naples, but Italian can sometimes be easy to figure out with many words having the same roots in Latin as their English counterparts and it is spoken exactly as it is written.
Naples is renowned for its pride in craftsmanship and if you want to see real craftsmen at work, simply wander around any of the narrow streets in the centre of Naples. The region's most famous products are coral jewellery from Torre del Greco and leather goods, including shoes, handbags and coats.
