Italy travel information

Italy is a perennial holiday favourite and as such boasts an excellent tourist infrastructure including fast and efficient bus and train services as well as a stunning variety of accommodation options. Medical facilities may be limited outside urban areas, however, and petty theft and pickpocketing is a problem in the major cities.

Currently there is a risk of unannounced ‘wildcat’ strikes by transport workers in cities across Italy, as well as pre-planned strikes that may affect your travel plans. Pickpockets and bag-snatchers are known to operate in crowded areas and on public transport. For up to date information, visit the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website.
