Hong Kong health and safety

Hong Kong remains one of the safest cities in the world and one of the most popular travel destinations in Asia, largely due to its stable government, good medical facilities and infrastructure, and low levels of street crime. However, pickpocketing can be a problem in crowded areas and foreigners should stay aware of their belongings.

Like many international cities, Hong Kong has world-class hospitals, providing outstanding care. Visitors are required to pay HK$570 if they use the accident and emergency services in Hong Kong public hospitals. The Hong Kong government assures visitors they will receive the emergency care they require. People who cannot pay immediately will be billed later.

Safety in Hong Kong for travellers is excellent. Pickpocketing can be a problem in crowded areas though, and there have been some robberies in Hong Kong’s country parks recently. Robberies and violent assaults have occurred on hiking trails.
