Greece health and safety

Generally, there are no local travel restrictions while in Greece, but you should be aware that certain areas near the Greek borders are militarily sensitive, and should be avoided. Private healthcare is exemplary but services in public hospitals vary widely.

The Greek National Health system provides a basic medical service to Greek NI contributors, and has a reciprocal agreement with the British National Health Service. There are many public and private hospitals and medical centres of varying standards. Doctors and facilities are generally good on the mainland, but may be limited on the islands.

Safety in Greece for travellers is generally good but the threat from terrorism is very real and you should remain vigilant in high profile areas. Road safety is questionable in Greece with the highest accident rate in Europe - the hiring of motorcycles is not recommended.
