Egypt is situated in the northeastern corner of the African continent, on the Mediterranean Sea, and shares borders with Libya to the west, Sudan to the south, and Israel and the Red Sea to the east. The country is divided into two predominantly desert regions, separated by the fertile Nile River.
Cairo, the country’s capital city, is situated in the northeastern corner of the country, in the Nile Delta, in proximity to both the Mediterranean coast and the Red Sea. Rail services link the capital with Alexandria, Luxor and Aswan, while buses and flights are other means of traversing the country.
