Denmark Travel Tips
Travelling in Denmark is hassle-free and the people are generally friendly, welcoming and helpful. Risk of violence and theft is low, while given the country’s small size, getting to different destinations never takes very long. Denmark boasts an excellent public transportation system and modern tourist infrastructure.
Denmark boasts a mild climate year round, but the winter months are best avoided due to the cold and the limited daylight hours. May and June are the best months to go weather-wise, and you avoid the tourist hordes.
Remember to take along a coat and tie; they are required in many restaurants after 18:00.
English is spoken widely but knowledge of a few Danish words can come in handy when sightseeing, and you’ll also charm the locals.
MService charges are automatically added to the hotel and restaurant bill. Tipping for outstanding service is a matter of choice, but is not expected. Tips for taxi drivers are included in the fare.
Denmark is an expensive country by European standards. If you’re on a budget, take advantage of the country’s numerous campgrounds, particularly pleasant on long summer days.
Look for restaurants displaying the ‘Dagens Ret’ (Menu of the Day) sign; they serve authentic Danish food and are reasonably priced.
