Canada health and safety

Canada has a well developed infrastructure and medical facilities are very good, however, tourists and temporary visitors do not qualify for the Canadian health care plan and should have their own insurance. Additionally, health care professionals in the province of Quebec might only speak French.

Canada has some of the best healthcare of anywhere, and the hospitals and clinics are excellent. In view of recent reports of West Nile virus, insect repellents and other measures to prevent mosquito bites are advised after dusk in the late summer and early autumn.

Safety in Canada for travellers is generally good and the people are very friendly, however, parts of downtown Vancouver should be avoided at night due to drug-related muggings and car crime. Driving on country roads can also be hazardous any time of the day and year due to wandering livestock.
